Christine Lavin is an extrovert who connects easily with people, and she still could not get herself in front of her own business. That gap is the whole episode. She founded Lavin Advisory Group after closing a maternity activewear line she had run for seven years, and the reason it closed had less to do with the market than with who was willing to be seen.
Visibility for Women Founders in Business: What It Actually Costs
Christine grew the first company to roughly half the scale it needed for a clean exit, with accounts at diapers.com, Amazon and a large wholesaler in Germany. What she did not build was a business that could run without her, or a founder willing to stand in front of it. She held every detail. She stayed in the warehouse. Years later she asked herself why she had tied the company’s success so tightly to her own worth, and found no good answer.
The second business was harder, not easier. No inventory, no product specs, just her, which meant every imposter syndrome question arrived at once. The old habit returned in a more sophisticated form: building systems, refining frameworks, staying behind the scenes. What broke the pattern was joining four communities of mostly female founders and discovering that everyone was figuring it out as they went.
