Last August, on a beautiful summer’s day, a house caught my heart. It wasn’t even on the market, but somehow I knew it was home.
A coastal cottage we could pour ourselves into. Somewhere to build a fresh chapter, with more room for the things we wanted our days to hold.
I could picture walks on the beach with the dogs, the rugged coastline and a garden to spend time in. I wanted a home that gave something back to us each day, a place where we could feel settled, enjoy what was around us and build a life on our own terms.

Discovering the Power of Our Surroundings
Since moving here, I’ve begun to understand how much our surroundings can affect the way we feel. The coast has a way of quietening my mind. Walking beside the sea, I become more aware of what I have and how grateful I am for it. It brings me back to the day I’m actually living, when my thoughts so often run ahead to what needs doing next.
This summer has given us so much. A beautiful cottage garden, the pleasure of growing our own food and time spent watching things develop. There is something satisfying about tending to a home and seeing the care you put into it take shape.
Alongside all of that, I’m still running a business. I still have ideas, ambition and things I want to achieve. Those parts of me haven’t disappeared because I’ve moved to the coast.
What has changed is the question I’m asking myself. As well as thinking about what I want to build, I’m thinking about how I want to live while I’m building it.
What Making Room for the Life I Want Truly Means
I’m discovering that I can move between business mode and a softer pace of life. I can enjoy the drive of creating something, then step outside and give my attention to the garden, the dogs or the sea. Both feel like me.
That balance truly matters to me it’s something I have never had before.
I want to be successful, and I want enough space in my days to appreciate what that success is for.
It sits true to half of me wants to disappear to a little house by the ocean, read books grow veggies snd the other half of me wants to be on the front of Forbes magazine, they meet every morning for coffee!
I’m still learning how to make it work. Moving house doesn’t finish the to-do list or remove the demands of running a business. But it has given me a clearer sense of the life I want and daily reminders to make room for it.
I pose the question to you of What would making room for the life you want look like for you, and is there something you’re ready to do differently to make that possible?
