Protecting Your Peace Through Travel

Chaos. This is a word/concept that has people intentionally looking for ways to “protect [their] peace.”

“Protecting peace” means different things to different people, but ultimately, the goals are the same:

  1. To minimize the impact of others’ actions and opinions on ourselves.
  2. To create a sense of control over our environment in a way that allows us to feel grounded.

Travel can do all of that for you and more! Here’s how travel can help you protect your PEACE:

Protecting your PEACE through Travel in 5 Easy Steps

(P)Planful self-care

(P)lanful self-care that allows you to be present and intentional about what you need. This could include going on a trip of self-discovery, doing a trip with people who lift you up, or just taking a couple of days to lie by the beach.

(E)Exploration of your dream destinations

(E)xploration of the destinations that are on your wish list, and intentionality about how and when you can get there. This could include going on that long-awaited trip to that place that you see in your dreams (or that you saw on your favorite show or read about in a book or saw on Instagram).

Travel empowers you to be curious again—to reconnect with your sense of wonder. Even a short trip, intentionally planned, can bring that dream closer to reality. Use your vacation days. Book the flight. Let your dreams become destinations.

(A)Advocating for your joy

(A)dvocating for yourself to rise above expectations and stereotypes by going to a place that aligns with your desires. This could include going to a country/region because you love the food, even if you don’t speak the language.

(C)Challenge your comfort zone

(C)hallenging yourself to get outside of your comfort zone in a way that helps you build confidence, and positively reinforces who you are as a person.

This could include visiting a part of the country/world that may be “off the beaten path,” traveling by yourself, or meeting up with a friend in another country. Feel free to adjust the challenge to meet your needs.

(E)Empower yourself to prioritize your needs

(E)mpowering yourself to make it okay to prioritize your needs and feed your soul. This includes being willing to take a trip in the first place and allowing yourself to splurge on a great meal, a nice hotel, or an airline upgrade. You only live once, so (responsibly) do what works for you, as long as it enhances your life.

Take some time, reflect on what you are doing now to protect your peace, and think proactively about how travel can become part of that protection process. You deserve that and so much more! Travel safely!
