Winter doesn’t just have to be about waiting things out—you can channel your creativity into meaningful projects right in your home. Personally, creative indoors in January and February are my playgrounds for DIY projects. There’s something therapeutic about rolling up my sleeves and tackling neglected spaces.

Winter becomes the perfect time to organize and refresh your home—think of it as reclaiming your space! For me, the basement often gets a much-needed facelift or sprucing up a bathroom begging for attention all year. And while it may not be everyone’s thing, there’s such simple joy (and empowerment) in seeing a once-cluttered or outdated space transformed into something functional and beautiful.

Here are a few project ideas to inspire:

  • Declutter a Forgotten Space: Organize shelves, storage rooms, or that messy drawer you’ve avoided forever. Consider donating items you no longer need to start the year light and fresh.
  • Spruce Up a Small Bathroom or Entryway: Change out a shower curtain, add a pop of color to your walls, or upgrade tired fixtures.
  • Bring Green Indoors: Add indoor plants to your space. Pick pots that are fun to decorate or paint yourself.
  • Create a Cozy Nook: Rearrange furniture or add textures like blankets and pillows to a small corner, making it your go-to spot for tea, books, or journaling.
  • DIY Decor: Make simple design updates with framed photos, thrifted treasures, or paint furniture for a custom look.
  • Reclaim Junk Drawers: It’s called the junk drawer for a reason; it’s the last place you want to spend your time, which is why it looks the way it does. So how about dumping the draw and just donating what you can in there and dumping the rest? The point is, if you haven’t seen or used this stuff in ages, you don’t need it. Reclaiming that space feels so good!

The idea is to let your creative indoors in January rushes gush out and breathe new life into your home—plus, nothing beats the satisfaction of a completed winter project that serves as a cozy backdrop for the rest of the season.
