If you plan a cozy winter escape to Montreal, St. Sulpice Hotel provides comfort, convenience, and thoughtful amenities. Nestled in the heart of Old Montreal, the hotel makes exploring the city’s holiday magic effortless, and it’s a perfect base for anyone looking for a relaxed, eco-conscious stay. Our experience staying at St. Sulpice Hotel over the holiday season was delightful, albeit with a few minor quirks. Here’s a detailed review of our stay, perfect for those crafting their three-day Montreal itinerary.

About St. Sulpice Hotel
Located in historic Old Montreal, St. Sulpice Hotel is mere steps from some of the city’s most iconic attractions and holiday spectacles. You’ll be within walking distance of highlights like the Old Port Christmas Market and the bustling Le Grand Marche de Noel. For those navigating Montreal via public transit, the hotel is just a five-minute walk to Place d’Armes Metro Station, which also connects you to the city’s famous underground pedestrian network.
St. Sulpice specializes in luxurious suites designed for comfort, functionality, and sustainable living. Guests can expect thoughtful space savings, like Murphy beds for additional sleeping arrangements, and environmentally conscious touches, such as refillable toiletry dispensers and decanter water stations—small but significant steps in reducing plastic waste.
The Suite Life: Thoughtful Design and Functionality
We opted for a spacious suite with well-defined living, dining, and light meal preparation spaces. The suite included:
- A foyer to kick off wet winter boots (though there is no place to sit—more on that later).
- A living area with a comfortable sofa and coffee table is ideal for mid-day relaxation.
- A compact kitchenette stocked with a Nespresso machine (and pods), an electric kettle, a cooktop, a mini fridge, a microwave, and an array of convenient bottles of wine and nuts.
- There was a separate sleeping area with a Murphy bed for larger groups (which we didn’t need) and a comfy king-sized bed with a soft down comforter and crisp, high-thread-count cotton sheets.
The bathroom was equally grand in size, featuring L’Occitane toiletries in dispenser form—a nod to the hotel’s commitment to environmental responsibility. These luxurious bath products and cozy robes and slippers delighted post-shower lounging.
However, a few design quirks did leave us scratching our heads. The robes were stored in the small bedroom closet (rather than the vast bathroom), and there was nowhere in the bathroom to hang your robe or set any clothing—a minor inconvenience but one worth mentioning. For frequent writers or remote workers, the lack of a dedicated workspace was another downside, leaving me to make do with the coffee table (the dining table had barely room for my laptop and mouse) while sitting on the floor.
Despite these nitpicks, the suite’s design worked well overall, offering plenty of space to stretch in the morning or reset after exploring the city in the brisk winter air.
Amenities That Impress
While little details like the toiletries and water decanter stood out for their environmental mindfulness, other amenities added to the overall comfort of our stay:
- Luxurious robes and slippers elevated mornings and evenings.
- Filtered water stations near the ice machine replaced single-use bottled water, a thoughtful touch for eco-conscious travelers.
- A Nespresso machine and electric kettle made it easy to enjoy coffee or tea first thing in the morning.
There were a couple of misses here, too—like the small dining table (barely enough space to seat two at a meal; I passed it up for work, too) and the absence of furniture in the foyer to sit and remove boots. However, these are minor shortcomings compared to the overall functionality and comfort of the suite.
Dining at St. Sulpice: A Cozy Start to the Day
Breakfast at the hotel’s restaurant didn’t disappoint. The gracious staff went above and beyond to accommodate us—even during a power outage when the kitchen couldn’t prepare meals. They offered me bread and peanut butter to ensure I could take my morning medication without the dreaded “hanger” setting in. Small gestures like this turned a challenging situation into a showcase for the hotel’s hospitality.
The food itself was fresh and delicious, just what we needed to kickstart our busy days exploring Montreal.
A Few Quirks, But Plenty of Comfort
Overall, we enjoyed our stay at St. Sulpice Hotel. The hotel’s emphasis on eco-friendly practices, convenient location, and spacious, functional suites made it a perfect choice for our holiday getaway. While the lack of a dedicated workspace and furniture in the foyer kept me from giving it an ideal score, these minor flaws didn’t diminish the overall experience.
If you plan to visit Montreal during the holiday or any time of year—St. Sulpice offers convenience, comfort, and a commitment to sustainable travel that’s hard to beat. Take advantage of the soothing L’Occitane shower gel dispensers—you won’t run out soon!
